Case 94: Paediatric surgery

An infant needed an operation for a scrotal condition.



1. What operation is being performed?

Bilateral orchidopexy

2. What condition did the child have?

Bilateral undescended testes

3. What are the problems of not treating this condition?

Subfertility, hypogonadism, possible decreased risk of testicular cancer if treated early. Certainly treatment before twelve months of age improves testicular function.
