Case 45: Laparoscopic finding

This laparoscopic image was captured during an appendicectomy. This is a view of the left inguinal region.

1.What is the abnormality shown?

A left sided indirect inguinal hernia.

2.What would you do at laparoscopy?

Take a photo. Do nothing more if the patient is asymptomatic. Inform the patient.

3.What is the structure running medially and inferiorly?

The round ligament (this was a female patient). In the male this would be the Vas Deferens.
