Case 122: Small lump on finger

This young boy had noticed a lump on his hand since he was born.

1. What is the diagnosis?

Supernumerary digit.

2. What are the options for treatment?

Observation if not symptomatic or of cosmetic concern. However, these accessory digits can be much larger and often have a small pedicle of cartilage and some neural elements which can be painful when irritated. Excision including the proximal neural pedicle and any bone or cartilage element.
