Case 115: Explain this appearance

An image was taken during laparoscopy because a complication had occurred.

1. What complication has occurred?

There was presumably bleeding from the laparoscopic port-site.

2. What technique has been used to rectify it?

Laparoscopically inserted sutures to control the vessel under the peritoneum, which, in this case was the inferior epigastric artery.

3. How could this have been avoided?

By placing the ports at a distance from the inferior epigastric artery and watching carefully as the ports are inserted.
